Rare earth magnets

Rare earth magnets are magnets that have lanthanide elements in their structure. The two elements of this group that are most commonly used in permanent magnets production are Neodymium (Nd) and Samarium (Sm). There are a lot of alloys containing these elements, but the alloys of Neodymium-Iron-Boron and Samarium-Cobalt are most commonly used in production of magnets.
Rare earth magnetic materials have higher magnetic parameters compared to Alnico and ferrite materials. 

Characteristics of NdFeB magnets:

  • Diversiy of shapes and sizes
  • Exceptional stability and resistance to demagnetization.
  • Relatively low corrosion resistance.
  • Relatively high resistance to mechanical impact
  • Operating temperature up to 180°С

Characteristics of SmCo:

  • Higher magnetic properties compared to Alnico and ferrite magnets
  • Even small sized magnets are capable of creating strong magnetic fields.
  • High temperature and time stability.
  • Relatively high resistance to corrosion.
  • Relatively low resistance to mechanical impact.
  • Operating temperature up to 250°С

Application spheres:

  • Space apparatuses;
  • Aviation engineering;
  • Electricity meters;
  • Miniature electric machines and devices;
  • Computer hardware;
  • Plasma containment devices;
  • Magnetic joints and bearings;
  • Acoustic systems.
